JMT was selected to provide comprehensive structural steel detailing services for Vanderbilt University Medical Center's landmark hospital expansion project, now known as the Jim Ayers Tower. As the largest facility expansion in VUMC's history, the 15-story, approximately 470,000-square-foot tower was developed to address the growing healthcare needs of Middle Tennessee while expanding inpatient capacity and critical clinical services.

The project presented a unique set of detailing and coordination challenges due to its location within an active medical campus and its integration with existing hospital infrastructure. Constructed on a constrained urban site between existing facilities and parking structures, the tower required extensive coordination among structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines to support the complex requirements of a modern healthcare environment.

As the detailing firm, JMT developed highly detailed BIM models and fabrication-ready steel documentation to support the project's demanding construction schedule and precision requirements. The building's structural system required close coordination with critical building systems, including dedicated mechanical, electrical, emergency power, and utility infrastructure that support continuous hospital operations.

Through proactive clash detection, model-based coordination, and close collaboration with the project team, JMT helped facilitate efficient fabrication and erection while minimizing field conflicts. The company's detailing solutions supported the successful execution of a complex healthcare facility designed to deliver advanced patient care, expand hospital capacity, and serve as a prominent new gateway to Vanderbilt University Hospital.
