JMT provided structural steel detailing services for Project Columbus, LG Chem's landmark cathode materials manufacturing facility in Clarksville, Tennessee. The project represents one of the largest investments in Tennessee's history and a major milestone in the growth of North America's electric vehicle battery supply chain.
Constructed on a 420-acre campus, the state-of-the-art facility was designed to produce cathode materials used in advanced lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. The project required extensive coordination between structural, process, mechanical, electrical, and architectural systems to support a highly specialized manufacturing environment and large-scale industrial equipment.
As the detailing partner, JMT developed comprehensive 3D structural steel models, fabrication drawings, and erection documents supporting the facility's complex structural systems. The multi-level production building incorporates significant steel framing, elevated operating floors, equipment support structures, access systems, and integrated utility infrastructure that demanded precise modeling and interdisciplinary coordination.
Leveraging advanced BIM workflows, JMT worked closely with project stakeholders to facilitate constructability, identify potential conflicts before fabrication, and support efficient field installation. Through proactive coordination and detailed modeling, JMT contributed to the successful delivery of a high-profile advanced manufacturing facility designed to support the future of electric mobility.
